National Pension Service Asia Infrastructure Head joins Green Energy Investment PEF

According to the Investment Banking source on April 29th, EIP Investment appointed Mr. Jung Kwon Hur, Head of Asia Infrastructure Investment Team of National Pension Service as Executive Vice President in March 2021. As soon as Mr. Hur graduated from Korea University in 2001, he started his first career as Certified Public Accountant in Earnest & Young and in Samil PwC covering SOC, Real Estate and M&A investment advisory. In 2010, he moved to Shinhan Bank (Korea's top financial group) global project financing team. Starting from 2015 until 2021, he joined National Pension Service and managed over $12 billion asset under management (AUM) managing a wide range of infrastructure investment portfolios with comprehensive knowledge and experiences in infrastructure related sectors.
EIP Investment has recruited Mr. Hur as Executive Vice President in order to strengthen its capabilities to invest in green energy infrastructure sector. EIP Investment is a General Partner (GP) licensed company established in 2018 by 100% owner, Energy Innovation Partners (EIP) who has successfully raised more than $3 billion investment capital in both domestic and global energy infrastructure since 2013. Recently, the Company has been raising fund for constructing and operating over 35 hydrogen fueling stations for commercial vehicles in Korea under the SPC named KOHYGEN (Korea Hydrogen Energy Network) which draws much attention from both financial and strategic investors in Korea.
It is quite unusual for investment specialist like Mr. Hur, Executive Vice President of EIP, who was in charge of alternative investment in National Pension Service (i.e. the major player in both domestic and overseas investment market) to move to Small to Medium Enterprise (SME).
Multiple IB officials said, "recruitment was made as both EIP Investment and Mr. Hur had the same goal of starting a new business in the field of eco-friendly energy infrastructure and EIP Investment promised to fully support Mr. Hur to immerse himself in his work."
EIP plans on actively seeking new business opportunities during the upheaval of the energy paradigm that shifts from conventional fossil fuels to green energy.
Mr. Hur mentioned that "we will expand our business to green mobility as well as green energy, eco-friendly industries and digital infrastructure. If Korea expands to new energy fields such as hydrogen as well as existing renewable energy such as solar energy, we will be able to take the lead in the rapidly changing global energy market."
